An aircraft engine MRO facility observed premature creep cracking in IN718 turbine discs after 12,000 cycles at 650°C.
Metallographic examination revealed undissolved delta-phase at grain boundaries — solution treatment temperature was below the delta solvus. Creep rupture life reduced by 60%.
Switched to RAS Alloy IN718 forgings with verified 980-1010°C solution anneal and delta-phase dissolution check. Creep life improved 3.5x.
